About this event

The first ever virtual Sphere conference aims to bring the university community together to share best practice and research in the field of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) , along with celebrating funded Sphere projects from 2019/2020. This online conference is open to all staff, students, and alumni.

The conference will include:

  • Panel discussion on Overcoming Resistance to EDI Chaired by Professor Raheela Khan (School of Medicine and Chair of the Sphere Programme Board) with panellists including Ian Kidd (Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy), Cheryl Ruse (Head of Operations - Precision Imaging Beacon and BAME staff network champion for Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) and Lenford Vassell (Security Officer)
  • Talk about EDI in the Digital World and Public Engagement by Professor Louise Mullany (English) and Dr Jacqueline Cordell (English)
  • Talk about EDI through a Technicians’ Lens by Kelly Vere MBE (Director of Technical Skills & Strategy) and Jodie Chatfield (Technical Services Manager)
  • Information about projects funded by the SPHERE Programme Board including:
  • Supervising PGRs from diverse backgrounds - Alice Haslam & Sandra Rose (Research and Innovation)
  • Diversifying library collections for LGBT History Month - Roz Kelly & Emma Halford-Busby (Libraries)
  • Focus group with BAME students - Aimie Purser (School of Sociology)
